Job description

Think Engineer is a small team of engineers based in Reading and looking for talented engineers to expand our current team.

Hardware / Electronics Design Engineer across both in house development and external customer projects.

Your Role

We are seeking someone who has experience designing Printed Circuit Boards (PCB's) for prototyping and production. The majority of this electronic design work is for digital circuits, however there are some elements of analog and RF design that are also required. If you are not an RF expert, don't let that put you off, we can support you to develop your skills.

You would be responsible for designing, developing and testing electronics independently, however you will be part of a supportive and interdisciplinary team who is able to provide help if needed.

You will ideally be able to work with Autodesk CAD/CAM software, including Eagle and Fusion 360.

Your primary responsibility is hardware development, however embedded software development skills will be beneficial for creating software to test your designs, as well as supporting our existing embedded software developers.

As part of a small team there will be opportunities to work in areas outside of your main role, so experience or interest in other areas such as 3D modelling, 3D printing, software development, AI, etc. would be beneficial.

About You

You are the kind of person who is happy to take ownership for your part of a project and be responsible for design, development and testing.

You are happy to work in a small team, and support others as well as ask for help.

You enjoy building interesting things, learning new skills, and seeing a project through to completion.

You have experience developing PCB's, as well as enjoying other technical areas.

You are a quick learner and willing and able to learn new things and apply them.

You will be happy to grow into a leadership role as we expand the hardware development team in the future.

You will have relevant academic qualifications (e.g. MSc Electronic Engineering), and/or relevant experience.

Although we can facilitate working from home, we would expect that you will work from the office most of the time in the first few months, to help integrate you into the team, however after this period we can be flexible with working arrangements, but it is likely you will need to be in the office on a regular basis to have access to equipment and work with the team in person.

Start Date: ASAP

If this sounds like the role for you, please get in touch as we'd love to speak with you about joining our team!

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £32,000.00-£40,000.00 per year

THE COMPANY – WHAT DO WE DO?

Think Engineer is a small technology consultancy and prototype development start-up (TRL 3 to 7).

We develop prototypes and proofs-of-concept for individuals, SMEs and larger companies. Most of the systems we develop are related to connected devices and the ‘Internet of Things’, but we have also produced virtual reality demonstrators, computer vision software, machine learning for industrial sensors and even one-off technological ‘experiences’.

Our customers come from an almost endless variety of industries, meaning that we must rapidly adapt to new concepts and apply our knowledge to many different challenges.

THE JOB ENVIRONMENT – WHAT’S IT LIKE TO WORK HERE?

We are a small team with a relaxed work environment. All of us require copious quantities of caffeine to stay alive and so we keep plenty of coffee, tea, energy drinks and beer in stock. Obviously, the beer doesn’t have caffeine but sometimes you just need a drink.

We also have a tradition of Fry-Up Fridays – turn up to work on time on Friday and we’ll buy you breakfast.
We like to be always getting better at what we do and recognise that the best new ideas often come from the least experienced team members, so if you have an idea on how to do things better we will listen.

We also like to nurture our team’s professional development, so we will pay for your membership to a professional body such as the IET, and there may sometimes be opportunities for training courses or going on trips to expositions or trade shows.
